Make Health Care Work
Don’t let a sweetheart deal silence our community voice!

Providence Health & Services wants Happy Valley to re-zone 145 acres of farmland to build a new hospital. Providence wants the Happy Valley City Council to approve this change without requiring accountability to our community. Instead of following existing zoning rules, Providence has made up its own special zoning rules that would apply to the land it owns and the land around it. If the land is re-zoned this way, residents will have little opportunity to decide what is built in our community.

Hundreds of Workers Rally at PH&S Headquarters

Three buses full of Providence health care workers and community supporters from Oregon and California traveled to Washington on the first day of Mission Week to ask Providence administrators to live up to the system's core values. The bus riders joined Washington health care workers for a rally at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

They then traveled on to Seattle, where an estimated 300 people marched through downtown Seattle, chanting for "actions, not words" and "fair elections for Providence caregivers." A delegation of caregivers and community supporters delivered messages to PH&S administrators calling for fair elections and asking the system to live up to the core values of justice, excellence, respect, compassion and stewardship.
